My qualifications
I completed my 3 year counselling training with the Central School of Counselling and Therapy in 1994.

I completed a training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) at Leicester University in 2007.

I am an Accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and as such am bound by their code of ethics and complaints procedures.

I have full Professional Indemnity Insurance cover.

 

Experience
I have over 15 years experience working as a counsellor both within the private and public sectors. This experience includes working for Women’s Aid, counselling women fleeing from domestic violence. For over 10 years I have had contracts with GP’s in Kettering and Corby providing counselling for their patients within the NHS. I also deliver counselling for Employee Assistance Programmes including Kettering General Hospital, Kettering Borough Council, Corby Borough Council and Lands’ End. In addition I am a qualified tutor and have lectured on various counselling courses for colleges across the region as well as being a Supervisor to other trained counsellors.

 

My Approach to Counselling
Although my initial training was as a person centred counsellor, I use a variety of approaches such as CBT or Transactional Analysis, depending on the individual person and their problems. I do not offer a one-size-fits-all service and using my years of experience, will integrate different schools of therapy to provide the most beneficial way of working for a particular person.

My role as a counsellor is not to give advice, but to help people find their own solutions to their problems by gaining a greater understanding of their issues and identifying unhelpful patterns of behaviour. Only once an understanding of why we do the things we do is gained, it is possible to make the necessary changes to our lives and move forward.
